Ah, the Sweet Sucking Sounds of Success!

Well, dozens of my friends and family offered suggestions for our bottlefeeding battles with Will. Of the many things we tried (see my last post for an accurate account of one of our more adventurous efforts), the one thing that seemed to be most successful was gently warming the bottle, nipple and milk. I waited until he was nice and hungry, and held the bottle in his mouth, carefully squeezing small amounts of milk in between sobs. After five or six minutes of screaming, crying, flailing, thrashing, and psuedo-punches, he gave in and started to suck. One small, quizzical suck. After a few moments, he seemed to decide that the nipple wasn't the worst thing in the world, and began to suck in earnest. Since that first hint of success, he's eaten a couple of bottles a day, decreasing in refusal with each new bottle. Today, finally, there was no protest, no rebellion, no flailing limb and no wailing cry - only the sweet sucking sounds of success.
